MEET MIKE

New Leadership Delivering Results for Our Community

Mike Waters is a retired Air Force Lieutenant Colonel, and former Air Force pilot.  He flew the B-1 Bomber, becoming a Flight Lead, Instructor Pilot and Evaluator Pilot with deployments to OPERATION DESERT FOX and OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM.  Deploying to OPERATION ENDURING FREEDOM right after September 11th 2001, Mike logged over 200 combat hours and 21 combat sorties.

After his operational tours in the B-1, Mike went to the U.S. Air Force Academy and was an Assistant Professor of Political Science, teaching various courses in the Political Science Department.  While at the Air Force Academy, he flew as an UV-18B (military Twin Otter) pilot with the Wings of Blue Parachute Demonstration Team and the Air Force Academy free fall parachute programs. 

 

Mike finished his Air Force career as a Military Professor at the U.S. Naval War College teaching Organizational Leadership and Senior Leadership Concepts in the National Security Affairs Department.  After his military career, Mike initially worked as a Business Development Consultant for Career Education Corporation, and then as a contract instructor with Convergent Performance. He then moved back to Montana and worked with the Region 8 Veterans Business Outreach Center.  In 2017, Mike became the Director of Veterans & Military Affairs for then Congressman Greg Gianforte.  Most recently he was a Military and Veteran Liaison for Senator Steve Daines.

Mike holds a bachelor’s degree in Political Science from Montana State University, a master’s degree in International Relations from Salve Regina University, and a master’s degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the U.S. Naval War College.  He is a native of Richey Montana with two grown children, and happy to call Billings home.
